Our client was a loaned servant to a Chemical Refinery Company. He was directed to remove bolts from a gas vessel using a cutting torch. Our client was instructed by the employer that the vessel had been cleared of explosive gases. As the flame of the cutting torch contacted the bolts, gas pockets which had not been cleared exploded sending chemically fueled flames into the face and down the throat of our client. He suffered serious and disfiguring thermal and chemical burns to his face and throat requiring an extensive hospital stay and numerous lifesaving and reconstructive surgeries.
